We want to let you know about a public meeting worth attending. Mountain Village’s Housing Forum takes place tomorrow—Tuesday, January 31, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. (details here)—and discussion will focus in part on the 50-acre Alexander Property near Ilium (news article here), which Mountain Village is in the process of purchasing for potential affordable housing.
The Town of Mountain Village appears to be conducting a thorough public process with appropriate due diligence, which should be commended. We understand that Mountain Village has hired experts to examine the parcel for suitability of roads, sewer and water, environmental assessment, as well as obtaining building costs for various possible development plans. If the town is planning a major development that would house hundreds of locals, this is the type of information crucial to making good decisions before the property is purchased, in contrast to how San Miguel County/Town of Telluride bought Diamond Ridge without that information.
We do not know how much due-diligence information the Town of Mountain Village will share at this meeting, but it should be interesting and informative regardless of what stage they are at; also, the forum promises to share info on other regional housing projects. We encourage anyone with an interest in the region’s future development and options for affordable housing to attend. This is an in-person event only but will be recorded if you miss it.
We also ran three advocacy pieces in the Telluride Daily Planet, and if you missed them, here is a link to see them.
Our group of advocates does still need support to pay legal bills and continue outreach. Please consider donating for the first time, or for an additional time, to help us keep addressing the collective concerns. Also, please consider writing a letter to the editor expressing your concerns or hopes regarding the future of Deep Creek Mesa, housing development and growth, and/or the East End Master Plan, editor@telluridenews.com.
You may give through this link for convenience; however, the credit card and third-party Stripe fee take away 6% of the donated amount. If you would like to donate a large amount, please consider giving by check to avoid that fee and mail to PO Box 1744, Telluride 81435; or contact info@lastdollarcollective.com if you would like to hand deliver it to one of the group’s core members.
