The Alexander Property Looks Like a Sensible Site for Community Housing

The County Planning Commission is meeting this Thursday morning to review the Town of Mountain Village’s community housing rezone application for the Alexander Property in Ilium. The Town of Mountain Village is under contract to purchase a 56.3-acre parcel from the Alexander Family located in Ilium Valley. The intent is to rezone the property to Community Housing (CH) for the purpose of developing affordable housing in the future. This project could be a sensible site for much-needed housing because it is close to existing infrastructure and residential and mixed-use properties. Also, regional transportation already serves the area.

Throughout this process, the Town of Mountain Village has been transparent about their goals and objectives, and they have created a dedicated page on their website with information on the project: https://townofmountainvillage.com/community/housing/alexander-property-in-ilium-valley/

Last week the town sent out an email with information on the project and the upcoming meeting encouraging public input. The full application is available online through the County’s website here, under Upcoming Events: https://www.sanmiguelcountyco.gov/661/Agendas-and-Minutes

We encourage you to participate in the public process. The application is scheduled to be heard by the commission shortly after 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 13. The meeting will have both an in-person option at 333 West Colorado Avenue and a remote Zoom option. You also can send a public comment, ideally before Thursday’s meeting, to planning@sanmiguelcountyco.gov.
